C.H.A.A.T. - Community Health Awareness in Adolescents and Teens

  • 100 West Houston Street San Antonio, TX, 78205 United States (map)

There are an estimated 500,000 online predators active each day, and 58% of parents report being concerned about the threats that strangers pose online.

In acknowledgment of World Teen Mental Wellness Day, The Center for Health Care Services is unveiling the Community Health Awareness in Adolescents & Teens (CHAAT) program. Experts from The Center will dive into hot-button issues impacting adolescents/teens and their families. Join us for a FREE session on keeping adolescents and teens safe online.

Topics Presented:

Online Gaming and Mental Health in Youth: This session will highlight the evolution of online gaming and how our youth's mental health is affected by trends and methods of use. Attendees will learn that despite concerns with online gaming, there are also positive factors associated with use. Participants will leave with a better understanding of what risks online gaming may entail, and what steps can be taken to support youth through the emerging popularity of online gaming.

How to Prevent Youth From Online Grooming: Understanding the dangers of grooming on social media and effects on mental health in adolescence. This course will help teens, parents, and those working with young people to identify, recognize, and help kids who are being groomed online to prepare a child for exploitation (sexual abuse or trafficking). This course will help individuals gain insight into grooming, educate people on how to prevent grooming, and create a safe online space for teens.
