We invite you to join us for an insightful and empowering training dedicated to fostering safety and well-being within our communities and homes. The “Tackling Safety Together” training focuses on the Safety Planning Intervention, a crucial tool for enhancing personal safety and reducing access to lethal means.

What to Expect:

This engaging three-hour virtual training offers valuable insights and practical strategies to help you create and implement effective safety plans. Whether you’re an individual, a family member, or a community leader, this training session is designed to equip you with essential skills for enhancing safety in different environments. Together, we’ll explore the important topic of suicide and safety planning as a crucial intervention. You’ll discover the psychological and social factors that influence safety, and learn how effective planning can help reduce risks, particularly in high-stress situations.

What you will learn:

  1. Effectiveness of Safety Planning Intervention: Discussion on safety planning and intervention to understand the impact of these strategies on preventing harm and promoting well-being. This training will delve into the nuances of safety planning, providing insights into how these plans can be tailored to meet individual needs and circumstances.

  2. Skill-Building Exercises: Participate in exercises to create effective safety plans and explore real-life scenarios where thoughtful planning has made a difference. An engaging scenario will enhance your understanding and inspire success stories. These activities empower you to identify warning signs and develop proactive strategies, improving safety for yourself and others.

  3. Following the Safety Plan: Participants will consider their unique environments and circumstances. This individualized approach makes each safety plan practical, considering available resources and support systems. The aim is to empower individuals with the knowledge to act confidently in crises, reducing harm and promoting security and well-being.

By the end of the session, participants will possess a practical and actionable safety plan that they can implement right away, ensuring peace of mind and promoting a proactive stance on managing safety in their everyday lives. This hands-on experience will not only equip them for potential challenges but also cultivate a sense of community and support among participants, underscoring that safety is a collective responsibility.

Eligibility:

The EmpowerEd trainings/seminars are open to the wider military-affiliated community and are offered Free of charge. Encouraged participants include: the spouse or partner of an active duty service member or post-service veteran, a caregiver or divorced spouse from a veteran or active duty service member, or an active duty service member or veteran.

Once registered, you will be e-mailed a Zoom invite to join via computer, tablet, or phone. You will also be able to access the Zoom information by viewing the event’s Online Event Page. The Online Event Page can be accessed by clicking the “View the event” button in your order confirmation email, OR by selecting the “Access this event” button on the right-hand side of this page. Please find a quiet, distraction-free place to attend the session. If no one attends the session after 15 minutes the leader has the option to cancel the meeting.
